Who the course is for

This course will be helpful for anyone interested in gaining a better understanding of how to
apply the rules for qualification of materials joining procedure and performance. It is especially
helpful for those who are novice ASME Code users, but is beneficial for those with more
extensive experience who would like a refresher to stay abreast of new developments over the
years.

Course Contents

This course provides a high level overview of ASME Section IX, including its organization,
responsibilities of various parties, and applicability to the various material joining processes. It
is primarily focused upon the rules associated with welding processes, but some mention of
brazing and plastic fusing is included. The material includes discussions on Part QG general
requirements, the required contents and qualification of joining procedures, definitions of
terms used in Section IX, an explanation of the essential, nonessential and supplementary
essential variables, revisions to documents, limits of Section IX applicability, required testing for
qualification, and use of the various tables in Section IX. A “How to” session on reviewing and
writing a welding procedure is conducted to help participants understand how to apply the
concepts that are addressed. Additionally, performance qualifications of individuals applying
material joining processes are addressed, including responsibilities of various parties,
performance variables, documentation requirements, required testing of qualification test
specimens including mechanical and volumetric (UT or RT), acceptance criteria, performance
qualification continuity, and requalification requirements. A “How To” session on completing
performance qualification documents using the applicable performance variables and their
limitations to establish personnel qualifications and their certification is included.
This will be a three day course consisting of (3) three (4) four hour days. The course is live and will
